This paper introduces a novel method for computing the dynamical Lie algebras of quantum circuits that combine parameterized and fixed entangling gates, a common architecture in quantum machine learning. This advancement extends existing algebraic insights to practical QML circuit designs, enabling a deeper understanding of their expressivity and optimization landscapes. The key result is the development of a framework to analyze the expressivity of these widely-used fixed-gate ansätze through their associated Lie algebraic structures.
Fixed entangling gates in QML ansätze are not just structural; they fundamentally shape the expressivity of the circuit via their dynamical Lie algebra.
Parameterized Quantum Circuits have emerged as a central framework for variational quantum algorithms in the NISQ regime, with major applications in quantum simulation, combinatorial optimization, and, more recently, quantum machine learning (QML). By developing a new approach for computing dynamical Lie algebras associated with quantum circuits combining parametrized gates and non-parametrized entangling gates, we aim to extend the applicability of recent algebraic results to architectures that are actually used in quantum machine learning.
