We analyze the terminal graph $G$ resulting from the random triangle-removal process on $K_n$, proving that the ratio of its edges to $n^{3/2}$ converges to $1/(2\sqrt2)$ in $L^2$. This result extends to any fixed strictly $k$-balanced $k$-graph, providing a precise asymptotic for the density of remaining edges. The proof relies on a general theorem for random greedy matchings in hypergraphs exhibiting near-regularity, minimal short cycles, and a stability condition on survival equations.
The random triangle-removal process on $K_n$ leaves a hypergraph whose edge density asymptotically stabilizes at $1/(2\sqrt2)$ per $n^{3/2}$ vertices.
Let $G$ be the terminal graph of the random triangle-removal process started from $K_n$. We prove that $e(G)/n^{3/2}\to1/(2\sqrt2)$ in $L^2$. More generally, we obtain the analogous result for any fixed strictly $k$-balanced $k$-graph. Our main tool is a more general theorem on random greedy matchings in nearly regular uniform hypergraphs with few short cycles under a stability assumption on the survival equations.
