This paper establishes a quantitative lower bound for the maximum size of a subset of a specific set of integers, $Φ_N$, that avoids containing any two distinct legs of an integral right triangle. The set $Φ_N$ is constructed from products of the first $N$ primes, where each prime's exponent is bounded by $N-1$. The key result shows that the cardinality of such a subset, denoted $f(N)$, grows at least as fast as $N^{N-1}(\log\log\log N)$.
Pythagorean triples are surprisingly sparse within structured multiplicative sets of integers.
For each positive integer $N$, let $p_i$ be the $i$-th prime for $i\in\{1,\ldots,N\}$, and set $$ Φ_N=\left\{\prod_{i=1}^{N}p_i^{a_i}:a_i\in\{0,1,\ldots,N-1\}\right\}. $$ Write $f(N)$ for the largest cardinality of a subset of $Φ_N$ containing no two distinct legs of an integral right triangle. We prove $$ N^{N-1}(\log\log\log N)\ll f(N). $$
