This paper analyzes the local asymptotic behavior of type I blow-up solutions for semilinear heat equations with general nonlinearities, extending previous work beyond scale-invariant cases. By employing a quasi-similarity transformation tailored to the ODE, the authors demonstrate locally uniform convergence to a constant profile on the parabolic spatial scale around interior blow-up points. The findings are applicable to regularly varying nonlinearities in Sobolev subcritical/critical ranges and, in lower dimensions, to rapidly growing nonlinearities like double exponentials, contingent on a positive lower bound for the normalized solution at blow-up points.
Non-scale-invariant nonlinearities do not prevent semilinear heat equations from exhibiting constant blow-up profiles.
We study the local asymptotic behavior of nonnegative type I blow-up solutions to semilinear heat equations with nonlinearities that need not be scale invariant. Using a quasi-similarity transformation adapted to the associated ordinary differential equation, we establish locally uniform convergence to a constant profile on the parabolic spatial scale near every interior blow-up point. Under a quantitative assumption on the nonlinearity at infinity, our results cover regularly varying nonlinearities in the Sobolev subcritical and critical ranges and, in one and two space dimensions, rapidly growing nonlinearities including double exponentials. A key ingredient in this analysis is a positive lower bound for the normalized solution at interior blow-up points. In fact, under weaker assumptions on the nonlinearity, we prove this bound in arbitrary space dimension without assuming radial symmetry.
