We establish that the combinatorial type of a hyperplane slice of a hypercube is uniquely determined by its graph structure, a property specific to cube slices. This finding is contrasted with arbitrary simple polytopes, where we demonstrate the existence of two combinatorially distinct slices sharing isomorphic graphs. The work thus delineates a specific geometric property of cube slices and its limitations when generalized.
A cube's slice is fully characterized by its graph, but this breaks for general polytopes.
We prove that the combinatorial type of a slice of the cube by a hyperplane is completely determined by its graph, within the class of cube slices. We also show that such a result cannot extend to slices of arbitrary simple polytopes by constructing a simple polytope that has two combinatorially distinct slices with isomorphic graphs.
