This work classifies the exceptional poles of the complex archimedean Asai $L$-function $L(s, \pi, \mathrm{As})$ associated with an irreducible generic representation $\pi$ of $\operatorname{GL}_n(\mathbb{C})$. By establishing an explicit representation-theoretic characterization of these poles, the authors resolve their structural and spectral origins over archimedean fields. For generic representations in general position, the complete Asai $L$-function is shown to decompose explicitly into exceptional $L$-factors derived from the irreducible constituents in the derivative filtration of $\pi$.
Exceptional poles in archimedean Asai $L$-functions can be fully decoded via the representation theory of $\operatorname{GL}_n(\mathbb{C})$, reducing complex $L$-factor computation directly to irreducible constituents in the representation's derivatives.
Let $π$ be an irreducible generic representation of $\operatorname{GL}_n(\mathbb{C})$. We classify the exceptional poles of the associated Asai $L$-function $L(s,π,\mathrm{As})$ and give a representation-theoretic characterization of them. When $π$ is in general position, we further express $L(s,π,\mathrm{As})$ in terms of the exceptional $L$-factors attached to the irreducible constituents occurring in the derivatives of $π$.
