Poor zero-shot performance in specialized visual domains is an elicitation bottleneck rather than an encoder failure: diagnostic rubrics unlock latent parametric knowledge to nearly double F1 and beat oracle upper bounds, even while verifier confidence anti-correlates with accuracy.
