This paper applies deep learning, specifically architectures designed for semantic understanding, to the pure mathematical problem of determining topological equivalence classes of finite group actions on Riemann surfaces. The research investigates how incorporating desired algebraic structure influences model design and analyzes which topological properties the learned model successfully captures. The key result is the successful application of deep learning to this complex algebraic topology problem, demonstrating a novel interdisciplinary use case.
Deep learning architectures designed for semantic understanding can now solve complex problems in algebraic topology, identifying topologically equivalent finite group actions on Riemann surfaces.
We demonstrate an application of deep learning to the problem of identifying whether two generating vectors correspond to topologically equivalent finite group actions on Riemann surfaces, showing how architectures developed for semantic understanding have use for pure mathematical problems. In doing so we discuss how desired algebraic structure influences model design, and explore which structural properties of topological equivalence classes the model has successfully learnt.
