This study analyzes silence gaps in thirty US situational comedies and fifty-one synthetic podcasts generated by Google NotebookLM, focusing on how these gaps vary by speaker gender and production context. By employing a fundamental-frequency threshold estimated using Praat, the research reveals significant differences in silence thresholds between human and AI-generated discourse. The findings underscore the nuanced ways in which silence is utilized in conversation, providing insights into both human communication and AI dialogue generation.
